Depending on your individual wants and needs, we may just sit and talk during a counseling session, I may engage you in therapeutic activities, or I may actively teach you new coping skills. My counseling practice draws on Existential Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Expressive Therapies such as play and art. The length of a typical individual counseling session is 45-50 minutes. The number and frequency of sessions depends on you and the nature of your concerns. In order for our work together to be successful, it is essential that clients attend sessions, make a sincere effort to work on the issues we are addressing, and follow through with elements of treatment such as things to do between counseling, readings, and so on. Typically, clients attend weekly counseling sessions until we agree that your goals have been sufficiently met. You may choose to withdraw from treatment at any time. Consider our counseling sessions private and safe. Information you share with me will be kept confidential with the exception of the following situations:
- If I learn that you intend to harm yourself or someone else
- If I suspect neglect or abuse of a child, elderly, or disabled person
- If I am court ordered to release information
- If your insurance company requests records in order to verify the services received and determine compensation
In these situations, I will reveal relevant information to the necessary parties.
